Queens is the most varied borough for concrete work. Dense apartment blocks in Astoria and Jackson Heights sit alongside detached houses with driveways in Bayside and Forest Hills and busy commercial corridors in Flushing and Jamaica, and each brings a different kind of sidewalk problem.
Driveway aprons and curb cuts
Much of residential Queens has driveways, and the apron where the driveway crosses the sidewalk takes the most punishment of any concrete on the property. Vehicles crossing a flag that was poured to standard sidewalk depth will crack it. Aprons need to be built thicker, with the curb cut formed correctly, and we build them to the DOT standard for driveway crossings.
Long frontages and settlement
Detached and semi-detached houses in Queens often have long frontages of ten or more flags. Settlement over fill and old utility trenches leaves individual flags sunk below their neighbours, creating trip hazards along the length of the walk. Leveling is frequently the right fix for these where the flags themselves are sound.
Commercial corridors
On the commercial strips of Flushing, Jamaica and Jackson Heights, foot traffic and delivery loading break walks down quickly and DOT inspection is frequent. We work with business owners and landlords to schedule repairs so the storefront stays accessible.
