Not every concrete problem is a sidewalk. Front steps, stoops, landings, areaways, rear walkways and basement slabs all wear, spall and crack with age and weather. Where the underlying concrete is still structurally sound, restoration brings the surface back without the cost of full replacement.
What restoration covers
Spalling, where the surface flakes and pits, is ground back to sound material and resurfaced. Cracks are routed out and filled so water cannot get in and freeze. Broken step edges and nosings are rebuilt with a bonded repair mortar and re-formed to their original profile. Where a landing or slab has settled, it can be levelled or rebuilt depending on its condition.
When restoration is not enough
If the concrete is crumbling through its depth, if reinforcing steel is exposed and corroded, or if a stoop has pulled away from the building, surface restoration will not hold. In those cases we recommend rebuilding the affected element, and we will say so rather than sell a repair that will fail.
Where we provide this service
Concrete Repair and Restoration is available across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx. Every borough files permits and fails differently, and the borough pages explain what that means for your block.
