DOT Violation Removal in New York City

Correction of NYC Department of Transportation sidewalk violations with permitted, code compliant repairs.

A Notice of Violation from the NYC Department of Transportation means an inspector has found one or more sidewalk flags on your frontage that do not meet the city's standard. The notice lists the defects and the flags involved, and the property owner is responsible for the repair.

How the violation process works

Once a violation is issued, the owner has a period in which to make the repairs. If the work is not done, the city can have the sidewalk repaired by its own contractor and bill the owner for it, usually at a higher cost than a private repair. Addressing the notice promptly with a licensed contractor is almost always the less expensive route.

What we do

We review the notice with you and inspect the flagged sections on site. We then obtain the required DOT sidewalk permit, carry out the repair or replacement to DOT specification, and provide the documentation needed to request a re-inspection. The repairs cover the defects listed in the notice, so the flagged conditions are corrected rather than patched over.

Defect types the DOT cites

The notice will reference standard defect categories such as trip hazards where one flag sits higher than the next, collapsed or undermined flags, improper slope, hardware defects around grates and cellar doors, and tree root damage. Each has a specific repair requirement, and the work has to meet those requirements to pass re-inspection.
